What the verdicts mean

These are Label X-Ray's own descriptive categories, not legal or regulatory terms — "Clean" here isn't a certification, it's shorthand for what the ingredient list suggests.

Clean

The submitted ingredients look minimally processed, with no flagged concerns found. Not a certification — always check the actual package.

Greenwashed

Marketing claims on the label (like "natural" or "clean") don't line up well with what the ingredient list actually shows.

Processed

The ingredient list shows meaningful processing or ingredients worth knowing about — see the specific flags for why.

The score behind each verdict weighs ingredient safety and how well marketing claims match the ingredient list — generated by an AI model from the ingredients you submit, so it can be wrong, incomplete, or out of date. It's a starting point for thinking more critically about a label, not a substitute for reading the actual package.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the analysis?

Analysis is generated by an AI model based on the ingredients you submit. It can be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date — product formulations change, and AI-generated content isn't guaranteed to be correct. Treat it as a starting point, not a final answer, especially for anything health-related.

What if a barcode scan shows the wrong product?

Barcode lookups pull from Open Food Facts, a free, community-maintained public database. Listings can be outdated, incomplete, or occasionally mismatched. If something looks off, use "Check ingredients" to paste or photograph the actual label instead.

Can I rely on this for allergy safety?

No — use it as a second check, not your only one. Always verify allergies using the product's current physical packaging, since formulations and labels can change after our data was last updated.

Are my photos stored?

No. If you use a photo instead of typing, it's sent to Anthropic to read the ingredients or product name, then discarded — we don't store it on our server afterward. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
